<insert indecent swear word> ROFLThe following has to be one of the worst quotes I have ever read. I was already questioning the intelligence of people who can be influenced by religion before I read the following. "No, everyone is born Christian. Only later in life do people choose to stray from Jesus and worship satan instead. Atheists have the greatest "cover" of all, they insist they believe in no god yet most polls done and the latest research indicates that they are actually a different sect of Muslims." But what is this word fundamentalist about? Is the difference between a religious person and a fundamentalist person like the difference between a person who inflicts grievious bodily harm and one who murders? Really, to whichever extent they follow those religious teachings makes no sense. Why hang on to that old stuff long after it has been proven that it cant possibly be real. Or dont they have the grey cells to read and understand any scientific research? Last edited by Mel : 02-19-2008 at 04:31 PM. |

Quote:
from dictionary.com: fundamentalist: 1. (sometimes initial capital letter) a movement in American Protestantism that arose in the early part of the 20th century in reaction to modernism and that stresses the infallibility of the Bible not only in matters of faith and morals but also as a literal historical record, holding as essential to Christian faith belief in such doctrines as the creation of the world, the virgin birth, physical resurrection, atonement by the sacrificial death of Christ, and the Second Coming. 2. the beliefs held by those in this movement. 3. strict adherence to any set of basic ideas or principles: the fundamentalism of the extreme conservatives. The operative word here is "infallibility" of the Bible, and they basically think everyone else on Earth is wrong and refuse to listen to reason. |

they believe in the absurd literal translation of the bible which is total wank and unreasonable.

Ever notice how much the word fundamentalism is abused in conversation? I dont mean in this forum in particular but everywhere.
Whenever somebody has an opinion that others cant counter with an informed opinion of their own somebody in the group is bound to accuse the person with the opinion of being fundamentalist. It is like the new pet word in the English language. ![]() |

I dont get why people associate religion with being good.
The bible and other holy books are full of violence and judgement and punishment. Well, I do admit that there is a little love scattered here and there.... I hate the self rightous attitude that religious people have that they are somehow better people than the rest of us just because they are religious. Whether they are fundamentalists or lukewarmers it does not mattter. Religion does not make them good. ![]() |

Just recently my son Bobby came out to me. I had been worried for awhile. His teachers said most of his grades were slipping and he seemed depressed and withdrawn.
Bobby said he'd been hiding it for awhile because he was afraid I would reject him. I sat him down and told him that I loved him and that God loved him, but that his salvation was in danger if he did not resist his unnatural tempations. I told him how being gay would mean he would live a shorter life, and that if he couldnt change his orientation he could be celibate like most the ex-gays are. He started crying saying something along the lines of "I knew you wouldnt understand! You're just like everyone else!" before running to his room and slamming the door. What did I do wrong? I dont want to lose my son, but I fear I already have. I talked it over with his therapist, who had the ludicrous idea that homosexuality was unchangable and that trying to repress could lead to lots of psychological damage (I've dropped him and will try to be finding another therapist with more moral beliefs). I wouldnt be surprised if he's the one who's feeding my son all the homosexual propaganda about how its 'ok' to be gay. That, or how homosexuality has engulfed the media, making it seem 'cool' and 'hip' and how they were just another oppressed minority. You didnt have to worry about seeing two men making out on tv at my age! I dont want to sound like a fanatic, but Im worried what other effects will come out of this increasingly secular, immoral society obsessed with filth. Am I too late? Or is it possible to save my son [Note: the boy eventually took his own life.] This one just fucking pissed me off! My best friend is going through this kind of shit right now. But fortunately he has friends to support him and he is strongly against suicide. But this kind of stuff just really pisses me off. Ok im done now. |
