Default Evoken

I am starting to get more into Doom Metal, and Evoken sounds damn amazing!!! It sounds Atmospheric, brutal, dark, creepy.
Has anyone heard of them? If you have could you please suggest similar bands. Thanks.

This is probably the best doom metal song I think >>>> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eEPxYFYD4o

Evoken are awesome, one of the best extreme doom bands around. If you like them then I suggest you check out one of the bands that Evoken was influenced by disEmbowelment who were one of the forebearers of death-doom. Esoteric are also a great doom band and in some ways similar to Evoken although Esoteric are more adventurous and experimental. Also check out Wijlen Wij, Skepticism, Mournful Congregation, Funeralium, Wormphlegm, Coffins, not all of these bands are similar to Evoken but they are all extremely good.

esoteric is the best in my opinion

every single album they release is a masterpiece

also the first couple Funeral (Nor) albums are pretty great "Tragedies", "Tristesse" and " In the Fields of Pestilent Grief"
nobody beats old Funeral for sorrow and despair. the newer stuff is kinda gayed up, though

also, everyone likes: Thergothon - Stream From the Heavens.

i second Mourning Beloveth (get any of their albums because they are all good)

Mournful Congegation is pretty awesome, too "Monad of Creation" and "Dawning of Mournful Hymns" (comp of their early stuff; essential). i wasn't a huge fan of their latest release "the June Frost" because it seemed like a big step down for them but most people gave it good reviews

stay away from Ahab because whales and oceans have nothing to do with despair

also i thought of another band The Funeral Orchestra. cool stuff. check out "Slow Shalt be the Whole of the Law" and "Feeding the Abyss"
