What is nu metal/mallcore?
Nu metal, or mallcore, is a modern form of music originating in the mid 1990s, influenced, but wholly separated from metal, that incorporates rap, hip-hop, funk, electronical elements, simplified song structures and subject matter geared towards teenagers and the youth of America. Lyrical themes usually include alienation, abuse and the so-called "pain inside".
Because of the varied origin, and not having a solid definition, categorization of a specific artist as nu metal is difficult, an issue made more prevalent in the online community of metalheads who take offense to the scene.
The term "mallcore" was particularly used by metalheads at the height of nu metal's popularity during the late 1990s and early 2000s to distance the mainstream nu metal movement from their own scene.
